NEBOSH international general certificate (IGC) is for all non UK nationals, employees of large organisations operating outside UK, multinational companies. The course is designed for personnel such as managers, supervisors, non-safety specialists, worker representatives or for those who have safety as their employment role. The nebosh course provides these persons an introduction in safety and health management and its application in workplace. The course is delivered in English and the knowledge of English is required for all candidates. The course content includes health and safety foundations policy, organising for health and safety, promoting a positive health and safety culture. There are also other topics such as manual and mechanical handling of working materials, electrical fire, accident investigation. The course also deals with topics concerning with chemical and biological factors affecting the health of workers. The chemical aspects involve inhaling of harsh chemical fumes at workplace. Masks and goggles should be worn while using chemicals. Biological wastes can also affect the health of the workers adversely. These wastes should be cleared periodically to avoid rot and other epidemic diseases. These wastes accumulate in agro-based industries. The various topics of the course prepare the individuals for an active role in the industries and organisation. NEBOSH will provide the certificate after the completion of the course. The minimum qualification for joining the course is a graduate degree of the institution of occupational health and safety. The elements of the course can be applied within workplaces as they can improve the standards.
