That's how my wife started, partials from the top.

I don't quite agree about the lat pulldown, as that's how I started. Form is important, plenty of people heave down, I did a "dead hang" equivalent on the lat pulldown. Went from absolute zero to 6+ in about 3 months.

lat pull downs helps if you know how to coach.
most people just pull the bar down without targeting the lats and lower traps which lead to shrugging and arms.
Its still better than using the assisted pull up machine.
Working "hard," or the perception of working hard, doesn't really mean anything. Sweating, vomiting, and breathing hard could be a good workout or a tropical disease kicking in.-Dan John
