seriously though, I think stress is overhyped; lack of stress isn't good, but "eustress" is obviously preferred over "di-stress"!

Evidence-based recommendations for natural bodybuilding...
A lot of meta-data references and conclusions in this study (it's Alan Aragon hence why I bumped into it). Long read, but the abstract pretty much summarises the conclusions, if you are in TL;DR mode (useless trivia, taurine is essential for cats, but not humans... hah): Review Evidence-based recomm...

I've been off for 3 weeks, and haven't yet got off my lazy, sleepy, jet lagged a** yet to get back to the gym, but I'm game. Also, we need to celebrate Goi's weightlifting gold, and Sufian's new baby. How about Annual 300 all-you-can-eat WOD at Carousal (Royal Plaza on Scotts)? It's Halal, and the s...

Re: Fast eating and the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus
this is likely more correlation than causation, i.e. if nothing else, speed of eating is a symptom rather than a cause; aka it's easier to wolf down a big bowl of simple carbs, than to chew and digest complex whole foods (meat/veg etc)

Sleep: What the Research Actually Says
Interesting article about what sleep deprivation actually does to your body http://www.ericcressey.com/sleep-what-the-research-actually-says My empirical sample (of one, namely me) does concur with quite the conclusions, e.g. when I'm awake for >24 hours, I tend to want to eat a lot more, and my per...

well, they are just P&S, so easy for me to whip out and take a shot whilst running away from the rampaging wildlife heheh... rather than carry 20kg of bipod/monopod, multiple lenses etc etc, and obsess about the perfect shot (yes, I used to do photography in the dark-ages, you know, 20+ years ago)

Re: Singapore Powerlifting Open 2013
I'm bringing at least two cameras (xz1 and lx7) and maybe even my old lx3; I find that the xz1 is kind of slow compared to the panasonics, so not sure if I will leave that at home...
Sadly no telephoto P&S, but I think I'd prefer it that way, not so focussed on photography per se but enjoying nature.

Re: Effects of late night exercise on sleep quality
Back in OZ I used to gym/MMA train from 7-10pm, had dinner at 10+ and went to be around midnight; didn't have problems sleeping. I was much younger then, but I was also doing that 5 days a week, with weekends full of daylight activity (rock climbing, MTBing, long distance cycling etc). Oh wait, now ...

Re: Organic food not much better than conventional
"conventional" wisdom on choice of organic foods is not realistically based on the nutrient value per se (although I would love to see a meta-analysis of the quality of fat in meats), but definitely on fruit/vegetables which are eaten raw/with skin, e.g. berries, apples etc. I don't see the study co...

isn't 14 times a bit much in terms of reps for active/dynamic stretching? My normal warmups are only 5-10 reps/side at most. But I can certainly appreciate that too much work of any sort can also cause fatigue.

Re: The effect of training volume on lower-body strength
Not sure I quite understand... at 3 weeks, 4SET and 8SET > 1SET at 6 weeks, 8SET significantly (statistics term) > 1SET at 6 weeks, all 1/4/8SET had significantly increased strength. BUT, magnitude of improvement of 4SET not different to 8SET or 1SET. So 1SET "catches up" with 4SET after 6 weeks, bu...

anyway, hard to tell without reading the actual article, but I wasn't sure if they were doing this fasted, which might also explain that hole-burning-in-your-stomach sensation if the CAP was taken on an empty stomach!

The waves start from 8am all the way through to 5pm, so I'd propose something like 8.30 or 9am (I'm gues...
