where to buy sturdy ankle brace in singapore

Post by ElliottChow »

Anybody know where to buy a good sturdy ankle brace in singapore? I keep repeatedly tweaking my ankle while playing basketball and as a result my ankle is really unstable so would like a strong brace so next time I play, I will minimize the chances of tweaking it. When I mean study not the the ones at watsons where you wrap a flimsly piece of cloth over your ankle. thanks.

Hey Jensen,

Is it possible that I borrow the brace from you for like a month if you dont need it? Where do you live may I inquire? If possible I will try to pick it up from you sometime this week. Do you have a phone # i can contact you by?

Thanks,

Elliott

Why do you keep tweaking your ankle? Technique issues? Mobility issues?

Mobility issues: can you move all you joints in 6 degrees of freedom, full ROM? Ala Intu-Flow(R)?

Technique issues: how do you pivot on your feet, depends on your full body mobility. If elsewhere have limited mobility, the ankle has to move more. Are you light on your feet, absorbing shock and rebounding energy from your movements efficiently.

A classic example of this is ACL injuries, the foot is planted and the body rotates. The knee being a mobile joint is the weak link and gives out. If the foot rotates together with the body, the knee is not the weak link and does not give out.

I keep tweaking my ankle only when I play basketball, sometimes when you jump and land on someone else's foot,it naturally just sprains especially since I play with low top basketball shoes. Irritating, painful but a part of the game though, only downside, is that with each subsequent sprain, my mobility in my ankles becomes less and less.

I had the same problem with playing court games, ended up taping up my right ankle everytime. No ankle brace can match tape (once you figure out how to tape properly); only problem is it hurts when you pull the tape off at the end.

mid-top won't help if you land on someone's foot.

what you really need are sharp elbows to keep everyone away.

This assumes that there are no external forces being applied to your body, which is never guaranteed, especially when you are playing contact sports, or any sports for the matter. In my case, I had a shin-on-shin collision which resulted in everything below the knee stopping instantaneously stopping, while momentum carried everything above my knee forward, resulted in an ACL tear.

Having good mobility does help reduce the chance of injury, but so does become a complete vegetable. It does not eliminate it.

At any rate, a sprain would indicate that he may have stretched certain ligaments and preventative measures should be taken to avoid hyperlaxity in the joint or said ligaments, which improving mobility doesn't address.

Well, it does. Though not in all cases.

Take an example of back pain (from our Kiwi friend): in most people, the thoracic & hip are stiff, which means the lumbar must move more to provide the same amount of ROM compared to if the thoracic & hip are more mobile.

Say you have three joints A, B and C, each joint normally moves 30 degrees to give you a total of 90 degrees. If A is limited to only 20 degrees, B and C must provide 70 degrees of movement, so B and C provides 35 degrees each.

On the surface this make it seem like B and C are hypermobile, but the cause is actually limited mobility in A. Overtime the extra ROM in B and C would cause extra wear and tear.

i have no idea who's right, but my only opinion is that...
if you REALLy need the brace, then it's probably not the time to play yet.
