Adapting to BMT
Just finished my confinement week, but i found it hard to adapt , both mentally and physically. had a running nose for 4-5 days...I found the running and pushups (holding at the bottom position) tough too.
Anyone has any tips on how to adapt? I'm thinking of doing some pushups with a field pack on my back (pardon the pun) at home...perhaps a bit of runnning during this break before i book in on tue evening.
It's only going to get tougher.
Cheers
Ryan

Re: Adapting to BMT
thanks guys. to be honest the mental part is also tough ie. regimentation like being shouted at while tired and shack and yet expected not to make mistakes eg. while recovering from pushup position we must shout certain stuff....without dragging our shoes...while moving fast...etc.
I'm quite intimidated as all of them promised tt it's going to get worse.
manyu: tekong sch 3 raven coy. u know anyone?

Just in one ear out one ear. They can't anything to recruits even if you make lots of mistakes. When you are private and above then you have responsibility.
Re: Adapting to BMT
Do keep in mind, BMT is nothing compared to NCO (now called specialist?)/OCS training. Be thankful they've got rid of BIC (my elbows were in shreds).
And depending on which unit you end up in, you'll be thinking back to BMT with fond memories...

bmt is luxurious.

Re: Adapting to BMT
Keep your head down, build good relationships with everyone else, or at least those who will matter more, and don't make it overly obvious.
Either get to OCS or be amongst the lowest - getting somewhere in-between is undesirable since you're neither here nor there. As an officer, you'll be exposed to a higher level of political game in the office and amongst colleagues, plus you'll also have a much higher allowance and the social prestige of telling others that you're a commissioned officer. Some girls dig that as they still harbour the belief that our military is superbly efficient. Don't need to dash their dreams - just lay them.
On the other hand, as a private or even a corporal, your responsibilities on paper are diminished, but there's nothing stopping you from taking on more, either voluntarily or forced onto you by your superiors. Treat both approaches as a good learning experience and you'll see how you can subtly manipulate the office environment and your peers. Forge good relationships with your superiors and you'll have people covering your ass when you need it. You'll also have quite a bit of free time to pursue whatever it is you want to do, be it a driving licence or a degree if you're working a 7.30 to 5.30 'job'. I never took a single day of MC during my term of service, and part of that was because I would still report to camp even if I was feeling like shit. The other part is that I had enough off days to warrant semi-regular absences from the office. This would not have been possible if I did not cultivate a good working relationship with my immediate superior.
You're already playing the Pick-Up Game; now play the Business Game.

Lucky you. I finished my NS with almost 2 weeks of unused off days because there's simply no time to take off at all at my unit.vicvic wrote:respect.Derek wrote:I never took a single day of MC during my term of service, and part of that was because I would still report to camp even if I was feeling like shit.
