Maintaining Strength.

Post by VinodVarma »

Hi,

Vinod here.
Kinda new to weight-training and all.
Might have met some of you guys at OPT previously or at hlp for strongman.
I came here looking for a little advice.

Anyway, the next three weeks are going to be hectic for me because of my final year project. Don't really think I'll have time to go down to the gym or train.

Does anybody have advice for maintaining strength in the DL and Squat or is my strength definitely going to drop? Or is three weeks too short to matter?
How about experiences coming back from a lay-off?

I'm sorry if these seem like newbish questions, still quite new to the whole weights thing. Been training for only about 5 months and still got tons to learn.

Won't drop drastically, so don't worry.
infact if you don't totally lay off with brief frequent workouts, you'd be fine.
Working "hard," or the perception of working hard, doesn't really mean anything. Sweating, vomiting, and breathing hard could be a good workout or a tropical disease kicking in.-Dan John

From my experience, your 1RM won't drop so much, but your strength/endurance will. Just ease back into it, otherwise beware of major DOMS the next day!

in my experience, str and endurance will drop a little but it's not hard to recover, unless you have a schedule or something.

No lah. Not pro. Just kinda worried cause I haven't actually had a break since I started weights about 3-4 months ago. Even in India I managed to find a gym. X.X

Oddly enough, I heard from Sam you had a forum.
Go and google and voila!

Damn you google bots...!!!

Anyway, time for a break if you haven't had one for 3-4 months. You can still train, but perhaps with a different focus, for example bodyweight stuff and metcon stuff.
