Same here, still using an fx9, I did like the fuji f50d (which I bought for my wife to use), I think my next camera will be the lx3, almost tempted to get it now before the f1 this weekend!

I think I have a spare G1... canon G1 :P, not panny G1...

I just picked up an LX3 (for my f1 sojourn this weekend) on the way back from the UPL visit... shot a whole pile of random pictures last night whilst sitting in a moving car, just to see what the pictures would look like. Pretty good so far, although I didn't realise the hi-speed shot mode would "only" be at 2M.

Now to get the PDF manual proper off the CD ROM and start reading...

Bert, you can borrow the camera after this weekend, if you want to get a feel for it (obviously I expect to get it back in good nick!)

Now to hunt for that nice retro leather case I've seen on ebay...

Darn, here's a retailer in NYC, wish I had bitten whilst I was still there:

Buy a DSLR... and learn to master for best results. Trade off is size.

well that was the major factor while i was deciding between then smaller-than-dslr fz-28 and the lx-3. i wanted smth i could slip into my pocket with relative ease, and had full manual control. =D btw phing what colour did you get?

Black. Didn't realise there was another colour till I was walking from city hall to suntec to get to the F1 (long walk to gate 1, but kind of fun, got to see the samba dancers at marina square/bay and took some nice shots) and saw the silver case.

Just remember that the LX3 doesn't have much of a zoom. But then you are talking sensor density of 24MP/cm2 vesus the FZ 28's 36MP/cm2 (from dpreview) so I'd say the FZ's IQ is nowhere near as good as the LX3 (tradeoff being you don't have a giant zoom lense).

If you do need that much zoom though, I think you'd be better off getting a DSLR, as size wise you wouldn't be saving much. So for me, the LX3 is the one. Just wish the lense when retracted was lower profile so it would fit easier into the pocket.

yeap. but the wide angle lens sorta makes up for the lack of zoom. ughh theres only silver left at my workplace. is the flash good enough? planning to get external hotshoe flash for night shots(not scenery).

I haven't as yet planned to use the flash. I find it very rare to use flash nowadays, if I'm capturing scenary it's amazing what a flat surface and a 2 second timer (so you can hit the button and then leave it alone; I don't mean a 2 second exposure) can do for you. If I have to capture portraits, then flash typically leaves the foreground overexposed and the background underexposed, so might as well just take without and try to compensate post picture. Otherwise you are looking at-SLR style super-flash with diffused lighting equipment, which, let's face it, no P&S will ever match.
