So is anyone going to back louis up with their own money?

The number of people who do and the amounts will be rather revealing.....

Louis, I think it's great that you're so much into training and nutrition. As much as thinking is important, doing is as important, if not more. I was fortunate that at the age of 14, a friend pointed out that I always thought too much. Since then, I've tried to keep a balance of both. Sometimes you just need to tell yourself "fuck it" and go out there and burn some Testosterone. This applies to picking up girls as well, but I digress.

Shit, I'll even chip in 12.5% of my 'pay' for you; $50.

That was Phing's offer, but I'll go dutch with him on that one if Louis makes it.

Seriously, can someone tell the foreigner what it means/takes to get gold?! :ANAL:

Just because it is written so clearly, you need to score more than 21 points and a sub 9:45 2.4 to get gold?

5 points if you exceed the targets listed besides A and 4 points if you exceed the targets listed beside B for each station?

It's not that hard if you really train for it

More 400m runs for you during 300 then!

First question, can you comfortably run a 1:20 400m? Note the word comfortably...

If not, you need to focus on that. You'll find that running 90-95rpm is distinctly different from many other activities like rowing (24-30rpm), swings (30-45rpm), closest might be cycling (75-95rpm)... e.g. the sub I did for the 400m last week, 80 swings, where I lagged Goi's 400m time by probably 10-20 seconds... you'd have done about 240+ steps instead if you ran the 400m in ~1:20, so cadence wise you need to feel comfortable with that rate of movement.

After that, then you extend you times, whether by running multiple 400ms or longer. That's up to you.

It's a mental game... your body will adapt, question is if you can handle ratcheting up the intensity.

But once you have that mental toughness, you can draw on it 20+ years later (I speak for experience :supz: )...

Quick tip I use, mentally I break the steps down into 3, so I typically count ~61-62 in a minute, a lot easier than 93-95 when trying to determine if I'm slowing down on pace.

What a fun thread this has been.

The betting book is now closed.

I thought the Chinese loved to gamble, but it seems that only one person is prepared to put their own money on Louis getting gold this year.

Even "dual income, no kids, my wife's a doctor Phing" and "I'm an IT geek Goi" realize not to throw good money after bad.

Talk is cheap, but when people have to put their money on the table, you find out what they really think.

Lets see where we are in Jan 2010 shall we.

Goi, can you do some IT magic so this thread pops up in January 2010 and we can all review the 'evidence'?

Phing and Keith both offered to treat the entire group of 300 regulars if Louis passes. Isn't that money on the (dining) table?

As for IT magic, given your history with Louis, I think your mental alarm clock will more reliable than any IT magic. I'm sure you'll remind us when the clock strikes 12 on 31 Dec 2009 :)

If Louis gets gold (which I have no doubt he can), I'll treat everyone who turns up to 300 consistently and encourages him (read as: chase him down during the 400m...) to Royal Plaza @ Scotts (caveat: I have no idea how good the food is, but I know it's Halal; Sufian can suggest other places if the food is better).
