What do you really mean by spot you

You mean spot or assist you?

My principle is that i dont even touch the bar until the guy reaches failure and requires me to rerack it back for him or maybe he might want a few forced reps.Usually, i would remind them that this is my belief.

I find that helping him force out reps from the 1st one is rather unproductive for training?

Why not just use a lighter weight man, isnt it the same thing?

The worst are those who require "spotting" on smith machine.

There's reasons for spotting.

I can only bench 85 by myself, i can put 95kg and ask goi to spot me. I'm not doing unproductive training in this case.

Nothing wrong. I guess you have a problem with many people. I do have, but there's so many things in life than caring about all these.

Do you not know how to read properly?

The term is used too loosely or most people have a too vague description, if you mean by so called "spot" then you expect me to lift it from rep 1-10 for you but then i have the correct meaning in mind, you get injured then blame me, then how?

And what if you really meant by the proper spotting and i touch the bar for every single rep, and you get pissed because you could've hit a PR, then how?

Its not about finding trouble with people, its about finding out what they really want.

once, i spot this big guy up till 70kg mp. wah lau, i'm like using all my strength and i scare the weight collpse. then i tell him that i cannot spot for him liao, too heavy for me. :(

to me, it means that just looking at the person doing weights and no contact at all.... eventhough he's struggling for his last rep or racking back the barbell.
assisting is required only when the person is about to die..

Clarify before you spot.

It is for the person who needs the spotting to decide since he is asking for it, your own beliefs and principles do not come into play.

If you find that it would affect you by going against those beliefs and principles because the way they want it, is different from what you practice, just tell him you are unable to spot for him.

when people ask me to 'spot' (99.99% bench)
i just stand there and don't do anything until it's close to failure. (i will, however, ask if they want a hand off)

they never ask me again. (and ask someone else most of the time)

obviously, they want something else.

but i don't like doing barbell rows, so it works.

The most funny i came across, 4 years ago.I was at the gym with my friend and he asked my friend.

Eh boi, can spot me or not

He:Ok

He then lift off the barbell(90kg)

Couldnt press it off his chest. He had to pull it off him. Then after that he said

Wow i got new record today ar

:o

well, i could always use some spotters to help me finish up the last few reps... No matter what exerciae it is, unless its the squats or deadlifts.

If you're looking for someone to spot you, it's only courteous to tell him exactly how you want him to spot you.

Unfortunately, they often don't listen or choose not to listen (though for many of the ones I've selected in the past, I'm certain it was the former).

It's also a courtesy to ask how someone wants to be spotted as well. I tend to ask for the number of reps, and tend not to touch the bar at all until that point or failure.
