I only remembered failing it throughout my Secondary school days, for my o levels i got an E8(my downfall)

switch frm pure science to sub sec at end of sec 3.grade bounce from a D7 to A1.sub science is so much easier

never try pure science, but i got a1 for sub science.

Pure math (I+II), pure science (physics/chem); all distinctions (plus doing Mandarin in OZ=100% haha, had my name printed in the newspapers with all the high "rollers" ).

B.SC in Math and Comp. Sci, Honours first class (whilst also doing 3rd year economics and psych subjects, aiming for a B.A and B.Ec triple degree whilst doing my PhD, but finally decided to forgo my PhD scholarship to earn some real $ and get industry experience, no regrets so far).

Study first, play later... (not withstanding, I played handball, did triathlons, archery, MA, board games every friday night, D&D every other weekend, and had a GF, whilst in Uni; hmm, maybe I could have got that triple degree after all... doh! ).

And FYI, I also worked part time during uni, in PC retail sales, as well as being a tutor and associate lecturer (whilst contemplating whether I should do my doctorate). So don't give me the BS about there "not being enough time".

Doesn't mean you'll get a certificate, but you can always study, I read 3-4 engineering journals a month, not including the trash magazines like MIS, CIO, Computerworld, the fiction/non-fiction books. And of course the fitness related websites and blogs.

Lets be realistic, there is a certain limit to education of effectiveness that you can get freely online.
You seem to have the bravado attitude towards self worth and have this way of thinking " if i can do it, so can anyone else."

step back back and look at yourself for a min, and you'll be looking a cynical person who only thinks in - My way or the highway, just like jerry - tough love? really?

Yes, I did, but I also approached people, formed study groups, etc; realising that lectures and tutorials are not sufficient and in fact, unless you already have read through the material and understand it 70-80%, attending lectures and tutorials are useless... ergo, I studied first, then attended lectures and tutorials to see to understand the other 20-30%, and also to ensure I was certain of the 70-80%.

Let's face it, compared to 1984 when I graduated with my Honours degree, online discussions, as with your strengthcoach site, are readily available nowadays. To say otherwise is ridiculous.

The attitude is realism, I don't believe I'm any more special than you, or others. Or perhaps you think that you are handicapped in some way, and therefore deserve special treatment?

You and I should have a personal discussion, outside this forum, about what my life and yours really are like, you would be very surprised, if you think I am some rich kid who has never had to earn a cent in his life, and had all his achievements handed to him on a silver platter. Read it. If you have read it, I suggest you read it again, because you certainly haven't applied it, in your statement above.

I have actually, everyday i'm reading but there is only so much i can grasp, let alone understand or apply.
The knowledge is constantly evolving though with application, I'm more of the learn by doing kind.

Information without understanding to me seems rather foreign and without understanding - there is little application for it which is useless.

I'm not comparing what you are/am/or is but rather different approaches to teaching/communicating - its easier to do it yourself but harder to teach and even harder to have the one you wish to teach - learn. Don't get me wrong, I agree 100% of what you said about life lesson but i disagree with the methods used to explained it and how you've expressed it so that other can gain value from it - much like how i disagree with Jerry's method of "motivating".

I've learned, amended and improved my aptitude towards public relations/teaching/communicating - and I'm still learning, amending and improving.
End of the day, if you're message doesn't get across as intended, and nobody gains anything with your contribution.. something is wrong somewhere.

Just a shout out, no need to be so defensive.

Let's summarize:
1) you say you have no money to study
A) I point to some online study courses (videos of lectures no less, not just the study guides)

2) you say not relevant
A) I show you two biology related courses which are right on the front page of each of those courses. I expound further that you shouldn't just study "fitness" related topics, but explore others, e.g. business (having failed in some myself, and as Lee found out, sat on panels which evaluate other's business cases and models)

3) you say I'm stroking my own ego.
A) I'm healthy, fit, married to a wonderful woman, wish I had kids but am working on it, reasonably successful career. All my claims are verifiable on paper. I didn't start this thread, but posted to show that regardless of circumstances, if you are willing to commit the the road ahead, you can (all you young folks still studying, please, you will never get another chance to do this again, no matter what you think. PLEASE do it well now).

Take out of this what you will.

You can either be one of those who are inspired by legends, or sweep their achievements under the carpet with statements like "they juiced", "in those days life was easy", "they had plenty of time to train", etc.

Now, back to how we are going torture ourselves this weekend...

concur with what you say though, i did triple sci back in VS, fucked arnd and didnt ace my exams, went to MJC, busied myself with training and president of HNF club, forced to drop a subject after year 1, did miserably in prelims (FFO), woke up after talk by my sis (you owe it to yourself to make sure you can study what you want in the future - never forgot tt line) pia like mad and scrapped thru with ABD grades.....

regret now as i try and apply for the sports science course in NTU, only 40 places, its going to be very difficult to get in.....

life is never easy except for rich kids.
