Why I don't drive here, let me count the ways

Besides the fact that I am extra-appreciative of those who do drive in this forum. It just doesn't make sense.
Code: Select all
Price Tax Fuel
City Mid-price car USD USD USD
Singapore Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 39,300 661 1.16
Toronto Toyota Camry 17,100 59 0.67

Source: p. 21, based on mid-priced cars in each respective city. Go to the report for the particulars.
(An interesting survey generally. I'm not sure, but it may be only based on services and the industrial sectors. I suspect the financial sector would have smaller differences. High cost =/= high standard of living)
And don't even start me on those behind the wheel...

There is no immediate need unless you're going up and down the island for work.
Public transport is efficient unlike other SEA countries.
This happen to us when we went for the CKT in malaysia.
Last day of the course, wanted to take a cab back to china town from bangsa(Town to amk) - its only a 15 mins drive.
Taxis didn't want to get caught in the peak hour jam/ we waiting for 30 mins - even after a few stopped by to ask us where were going.
Buses are are a rarity and the near by train station is a 25 min walk up and down a steep hill - we were exhausted from the course itself.
When we finally got a cab, it took us 45 mins just to get out of the jam - 25 RM via mete which was what seems to be a 8-9 RM on a non peak hour period.

So, how do you intend to show your extra-appreciation of those who drive in this forum?

At some point, the crossover between $ cost and opportunity cost meet and breach. You fail to take that into account. e.g. I spend an extra half an hour coming to pick you up on sunday (20mins up, extra 10 mins back down to TPY), but then we wouldn't have had that extra 10 mins of conversation.
So what cost friendship?

Phing, HiACE would be your choice, 2m O bars are no problem, you can place them diagonally.
It is about 60ish for a full tank (it has a 70 litre tank), pending on fuel prices (if you know where to go other than petrol stations).

wah lau
my english so bad meh?
van not cheap now, car better. = car is cheaper?
van used to be very cheap at that time, the price diff between car and van is lower now, so take car better.
van has 0 scrap value except for its remaining COE. take this into consideration also.
tax abt the same? forget.
yearly inspection: waste time and money
but insurance is much cheaper
