2012 Powerlifting Championship Series
The Singapore Weightlifting Federation (SWF) is establishing an annual series of powerlifting competitions with the objective of developing the sport while providing enthusiasts and competitors a viable platform to challenge themselves and each other.
Through this series of competitions, SWF will consolidate a database of lifters that could be eligible to participate in overseas competition. It serves as a means for all immediate parties to ensure that those competing overseas have the appropriate techniques and knowledge to do so.
The inaugural 2012 Championship Series comprises of 3 rounds, 1 for each discipline – Bench Press, Squat and Deadlift – and 1 Grand Championship. While a competitor may compete in a minimum of 1 discipline, to qualify for the Grand Championship (incorporated into the Singapore National Weightlifting Open), he/she must have participated in all 3 disciplines for a cumulative total. Only the Top 6 lifters (based on cumulative total) from each weight category will be invited to participate in the Grand Championship. Should an invited competitor decline his slot, it will then be offered to the next better competitor
Code: Select all
Date/Time Venue
Round 1 – Squat 7th Apr 2012 SWF Training Centre
Round 2 – Bench Press 5th May 2012 SWF Training Centre
Round 3 – Deadlift 2nd Jun 2012 SWF Training Centre
Grand Championship Jun/Jul 2012 TBA
(all 3 disciplines)
Prizes will be awarded to the Top 3 finishers for each discipline of each weight category, except for the Grand Championship where only the Top 3 finishers based on cumulative total of the 3 disciplines for each weight category will be awarded prizes.
SWF will also maintain a register of National records for each of the disciplines, which will be categorized by weight category, gender and age group (Jr and Sr).
Registrations can be downloaded here:

Payments can be made through our
online store.
As always, please direct all inquiries to the SWF email address.

no seniors category for the >40?
I only fall into the intermediate category for a 67kg'er in the exrx site... bordering on advanced on a good day!

Hmm, ok well I'm game, I guess if I can hit my previous PBs for sq/pr/dl ~110, 90 and 135 I shouldn't be too ashamed to try. And there's plenty of time between each "round" to peak!
anybody else going to try? I'll need some help to make sure I do the lifts correctly prior to meet day, theoretically I should be ok since I don't bother cheating.
let me check my calendar to make sure I'm in town... (and I'll need some knee wraps, wrist/elbow wraps, belt... sigh)

I'll probably go for the WL open rather than the PL one. Butt injury precludes me from doing max effort squats and deads...every time I attempt one, I pay for it months after

2012 Powerlifting Competition
Due to a weak response, SWF has had to make the decision to reschedule the powerlifting competition series that was planned for Apr-June 2012.
We will instead organise a one-day powerlifting competition (all 3 disciplines) at a date (July) and venue to be confirmed by May 2012.
We will be keeping all registrations-to-date on file as pre-registrations as registrations fees for one or all catergories will remain the same. Those who wish to claim a refund of their registration are to contact us at
swf@swf.org.sg.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconveniences caused.

oh bugger, I was just about to send in my form for the squat and DL meet... well, july would be a better time for me so I don't miss the bench (not that I'll be benching very much!).

OK good, doesn't conflict with any prior appointments. Now to hope my adductor feels better soon, otherwise I won't be squatting more than 90kg (so far...).

I was thinking of going to swf next saturday (9th June) or the followng (16 June) to do some practise lifts, are you guys (goi/keith or others) available those days to assist with spotting me, advice on technique, giving me lift commands etc?

I will probably be around, I haven't seen Keith forever, Xian is usually around, and Elliott depends on how hung over he is.

I can come.
I've been working out of town.
Have been avoiding pushing movements thus far, going to see Aldrin tonight.
Actually, thinking of trying out Xian or your shoes. Squatting with Goi's old shoes makes me think a pair would be a good investment

Oh, you meaning you, but Phing managed to squeeze in a reply in between, inadvertantly becoming "you"

Who me? I ain't got no oly shoes. I'll be doing everything in my merrells, I don't think whatever extra weight I can squat in oly shoes, will do me any good in the overall standings, last is still last (but I'm hoping for 2nd last, haha!).

probably both, though I think we're not the same size.
Between those two and the risto's I'd have tried all of the ones I'd think of buying...

Celebratory dinner after?

celebratory dinner? Any idea what the schedule is like, and how long it'll go for?

Here's a reply from Colin:
The tentative schedule is as such.
Weigh-in 8.00am to 9.30am
Squat 10.00am to 11.30am
Bench Press 11.45am to 1.15pm
Deadlift 1.30pm to 3.00pm
A final schedule will be published beginning of next week. It is free entry for spectators. Only the bodybuilding championship is ticketed.

OK thanks. 90 minutes per event, if at most 6mins/competitor (2mins/attempt), that means they only have ~15 competitors in all the weight classes combined? I thought they'd have more (unless they have multiple racks and judges?).

Actually 1min/attempt, though with the reloading of plates, probably closer to 2min/attempt.
Anyway, from what I've heard there are over 20 competitors.

I just need one competitor in each event to lift just a little less than me so I'm not last (although I might still be last in the overall standings)...

You can always ask for an age class breakdown, could be Master's level and others?
Wilks formula?
Any other ways to skin the cat?
