How much is it to own a small bike, enough to get me from one place to another.

Don't have to fancy nor powerful.

What are the hidden fees that i must take note?

And how many lessons to learn on average before taking the license?

A small bike like my wave will set u back about $1.5k. (2nd hand)
New bikes about 4k.

U need to set aside $15 per month for season parking. Fuel consumption for my wave is about 35 to 40km per litre. Thus fuel is cheap.

Yearly roadtax is about $120. Insurance about $250. But, for p-plate is about $600.

Lesson-wise I am not sure, cause I got my liscence when I was 16 turning 17. About 11 to 12 years ago. haha.

15 x 12 + 120 + 600 = 900
900/12 = 75.

Fuel say 1 week 15 bucks. so all in all, 100 bucks a month.

hmm seems cheaper than public transport after the initial 1.5k.

At Ubi CDC, there are 8 practical lessons. 1 riding theory test. and then the final practical test..

It is cheaper lah. Especially after u get the bike, u will tend to go around more often than you already did. Thus, more bang for the buck. And, it is convenient, except when it rains.

the loading on wave may be too much coz you are heavy. its acceleration etc will suffer and this make riding more dangerous.

recently, there's just too many idiots driving on the road. they make riding even more dangerous. don't think about money saved, time saved. these doesnt keep our live safe.

ask all bikers, all will confirm kenna accident at least once during their riding life.

be it big or small.

I'm contemplating the human powered variety to commute to and from work. I miss doing that, but that's half a world away, sigh.

But now there's a place close to work that I can shower at and store my bike (should I ship it over or have a moment of insanity and buy one here to avoid possible hassles with tards at customs trying to prove that everything is mine and not stolen (name that old school tune)).

I was going to suggest to Louis he cycle too... I used to cycle from the east coast to my army camp in Stagmont (Teck Whye), and also to the club at Upper Thomson. But you are right, traffic nowadays is a nightmare, I swear there are more drivers on the road now who have no idea what they are doing, even compared to India!

On the motorized side, there is the Piaggio MP3... very stable, lots of storage space, albeit more expensive... if only my wife would let me get either...

I agree with the view that many drivers think that they are hamilton. They change lane without signalling, just cut into your lane.

But, at the same time there are many idiots on bikes too. And taxis are the biggest culprits of them all.

I've realized that many of the offending drivers are women or old people though

Bike? Can't la.. i have 30 mins to rush from stevens road to jalan jurong kechil..

Which also means i have to cycle from yishun to stevens road and reach there by 8 am.

That'll be some intense shit.

I'm just looking at more viable means of transport and flirting with the idea.
If i get more clients the draw is more appealing.

My cycle time from east coast (everitt road) to jalan teck whye (including the climb up the hill to stagmont camp) was 45 minutes, faster if I cut through orchard road rather than through rochor, due to less traffic on the way home. According to google maps the distance is 22km, so that's an average speed of 30km/h (makes sense, I went at 6.30am in the morning so not much traffic, and coming home at 6-7pm... well, you cycle faster!)

Motorbike might take you longer, simply because traffic is worse and you'd incur extra charges going through orchard nowadays...

Eh Louis... u better think properly... when u get transport, it's additional cost.. if u dun hv any $$ to spare, dun first..cos this move might be temporary.. becos clients any time can come and go... no matter hw hard u do... they are e ones who decide to continue training.. becos PT is not MUST...it's just a need to some of them... the ones who can afford are high end working pple... not average earning pple...

that's less than 9k if you have to go end to end...

after you weigh the pros and cons about riding a bike, if you feel like it, just go get it.

extra $300monthly is what we used for public transport too right?

dun compare like this....the time it will save you and convenience it give you cannot be measured with $.

got ur license already? y dun you just get that first before considering anything else.

i dunno how many clients you have and how busy you are, etc...

but if i get both physically and mentally tired from the job, last thing i want is to ride a small motorcycle home...

i was thinking about a bike license also, till my dad went 'fuck no!'

hell, im still getting the car, then bike license.

i've friends who got cheap 2nd hand ones for about 200-400.

phing, what kinda bicycle did you use? i'm thinking of getting one to pedal to work too... not as far distance as yours, from bukit panjang to jurong west only.

bukit panjang to Jurong West... ensure that the bike u have has thin tyres and not those mpuntain bike tyres.
