After reading what happened to the poor teenager in today's Straits Times, I 'm reminded tt it's important to know self-defence :x

My friends in Italy are learning this form of self defense. Seems that Scott Sonnon's background is in that too. I came across many people learning this but not in Singapore though.

I see...isn't Scott sonnon the intuflow guy?

I think the trend is starting to pick up in Singapore here, following the rising popularity of Muay Thai. Just hope the people learning it are doing so for the right reasons hahaha...

Comparing BJJ to the original Jujitsu, I'd prefer Jujitsu (disclaimer I trained in JJ many many eons ago); after all, how many fights give you the luxury of being able to submit a single person with his/her friends/busybodies coming over and kicking you in the head. The only reason BJJ is the craze now is due to the rulings about no biting/gouging/small join locks etc in ring/octagon fighting...

I hope Combat Academy is still alive; if you noticed, the program has not been updated for a few years!

KM's good in that they teach you very basic moves but hone those skills a pressure situation, and also practise multiple opponents; IMHO very important IRL.

I don't necessarily agree with some of the knife/gun clearing or reversal moves they use, but then again, I've never had been shot at in real life yet, so what do I know...

From my limited experience, I think for conditioning purposes, boxing is the one that u should go to. And, boxing allows much opportunity for sparring, which in the end is what u would want from martial arts. Sparring gives u opportunity to see what would happen when the opponent is not so passive.

For self defense purposes, any martial arts with takedown moves are good. Just keep on practising till u get better.

At the end of the day, fighting is not to be encouraged. But, when the time comes, even if u are trained, u may not be able to have the courage to practise what u learn.

In Singapore, even in self defense, a fight means both will get charged. And it is no fun sitting in the lock up for 2 weeks while waiting for the charges to be read to u at sub court. No fun at all.

hahaha sufian you from silat right why ask ppl go boxing?

eh yeah fightworkasia sounds like a good deal, tons of martial artists do crossover trngs these days for an extra edge even if we dont use it in our own martial arts, there're like allstyle fights organised that we still need it in.
