simple, sitting on the toilet can be done with knee dominance, limited ROM and stability. Dip down, Arse touch rim and release weight on throne - no stabilization involve, no need to have everything functioning.
A good air squat needs good ankle mobility, significant amount of linear stability (thoracolumbar+inner units+ hips - activation of the glutes and hams.), re-teaching of a movement and correction.

Problem is balance after breaking parallel where the torso dips forward due to the fact that the left ankle doesn't allow full flexion and is limiting ROM, hence the center of gravity is tipped forward as the weight goes to towards the toes.
Trying to correct that from day one with lunges/ankle mobility drills/activation of the glutes and hams/mini band box pistols/air squat and box squat drills.
Rather than wait for her to gain back full mobility which i doubt will happen so soon, a SS will give the benefit of squatting.

However the rehab/strengthening program has gotten her from being a knocked kneed squatter/quad dominant in the beginning to a lil past parallel which is by hindsight is an improvement in her movement but then again i know nothing, so doesn't add up to anything nor can it be called a feat.
Rehabbing her from severed nerves and inner unit musculature in her mid section due to a cesarean birth, to doing an ab wheel and now a full turkish getup with 10kgs which i think for you is child's play.
oh not to forget the little detail of working around a subluxation of her C5.

I think its a miracle, that i'm able to do it. I think its more a Fluke...;)

If you have better methods and can fix her within one session, i'll gladly bring her to you and pay you the session fee.

Recently I got into a 'debate' with this fella from the MINDEF forums. His argument? That the starting position of a clean and a deadlift are different. He said he'll get some videos to support this point. So far I haven't seen any since he doesn't even have a leg to stand on. :)

i've been taught that the clean, your upperbody stays as upright as possible, which means your ass go as low as possible. thats a clean pull.

in a deadlift, your ass is a lil higher. isnt it?

Hardstyle chooses power over efficiency and chooses techniques proven to be most effective for max force application, and uses maximal accelaration in quick lifts and maximal tension in the slow lifts aka grinding movements lol. It is the practice of the skill of compression, maximizing tension in the muscles, compressing the joints, compressing the breath and focusing the body's energy into a single directed effort, like how i advise ryan to brace as hard when he's doing his 60kg deadlift or a max effort.

by choosing to do it softstyle or gs, i can see no benefits unless if you're a gs focused athlete like herman is lol. haha means

CHEATING :finga: hahahaha

Very simple.. just watch how Olympic Weightlifters clean

We are taught to keep neutral spine in deadlift which means head align with torso but for clean, for head position, you look straight or up.

Thanks.

I've done snatches in the manner that Greg Everett mentioned and it never feels, for the lack of a better term, as 'in the groove' as doing what Rippetoe has mentioned. Then again I last snatched 77.5kg for three reps only and my technique is probably shit.

Yes I know that, but other than that everything else from the start to the middle half of the movement is the same isn't it?

if you dip your arse down on the loo, then you end up with your tackle over the front of the bowl, you have to send your butt back

you might be happy to dribble all over the floor, but most of us like to aim in the bowl,

as to your client, you are talking about training rehab, i'm talking about training the guys who go to 300 etc

there is a big difference

The OHS is actually one of the assessments in the FMS, except in the FMS it's done with feet shoulder width apart and pointing directly ahead, to exaggerate any compensations/imbalances you may have. It's much harder to do when in this stance.

The teaching progression is
air squat
front squat
overhead squat

all done unweighted

the focus is on getting the mechanics right

the focus is on feeling the start and end positions of the movement, how to initiate the movement, and the the most commonly useful coaching cues

get the mechanics right first
