Thought I should share this.

Post by Ryan.carpediem »

QN: " What motivates u to do all these? have you ever wondered about tt...eg. ppl initially start training to look good...but in the end they realize tt u can't eat fruits...sugar...any carbs...tt kind of thing....very restricted in terms of food choices...what pushes you to go forth with the lifestyle? Many times i've doubted myself and I've tried to rationalize these things away...for instance the fact tt ppl 's negative reactions when i bring my own food...order meat w/o rice...friends... "

Coach Jon's reply: coach Jon - Attack The Gap When You See An opening! says (05:26 :
on their part
ppl generally reject whats different or not normal.
so u should expect some resistance

on your part
u musnt have a superior attirude abt it
ur atttudie should be "im just trying to maximize my potential and health"
and finally
not eveybody will agree
but they will have to respect that
becaue it is not reasonable not to
ppl ask me why im spend 20000 bux /yr on education
i already spend 5k and im goign sweden prob in may
for a sports trainign seminar

i say "im trying to be the best in the world at my profession"

what can you say about that?
"forget it la, just be average"
no right?

ppl have to either accept it and encourage you, or they will leave u alone because there is nothing wrong with that
sure some ppl will be small minded abt it
but they have their own problems themseives
and nothing to do with u

ppl say "oh for that amount you can buy a mercedes"
im like...SO WHAT

must have conviction in what ur doing
it has to be morally upright
and also be good for helping people
then everybody including God, is on yr side
not tat u blackmail God, but if your principles are good, the blessing of God is not interrupted by sin"

I agree with him

Well, education is an intangible and immeasurable thing. You possess it until the day you die(unless you got coma or something), the same cannot be said for some material goods.

But different strokes for different folks i guess.

why you care so much?
You life, your food, your money.

What i do with it that doesn't affect others, is my business.

Like the great Louie Simmons says -
My morals are mine, your morals are yours; Who am i to judge you? Who are you to judge me?
Working "hard," or the perception of working hard, doesn't really mean anything. Sweating, vomiting, and breathing hard could be a good workout or a tropical disease kicking in.-Dan John

if people around you are actually making a big deal out of you bringing your own food...
i would actually consider hanging around different people before rationalizing what you do to them.

i may be wrong, but it sounds like you have this need to 'fit in' or something.
maybe you should think about that.

oh the other hand...

if you really care what these people think (and it seems that you do)...
why not just eat what they eat, etc?

wouldn't your life be a lot easier?

I'm not suggesting that you quit your training/diet entirely...
i'm just saying prioritize whatever you feel is important... if you feel, that at this point of your life, you'd rather be having good time with your friends than to be restricting your diet and getting shit for it... then I just don't see why you should keep doing this.

maybe you should take a few weeks break from the whole thing.

I suggest you seek guidance in dealing with peer pressure.

If you are going to let each and every little thing that people say or do, affect you, I'm afraid you will make life miserable for yourself.

All those comments about your diet, you bring your own food etc. DO NOT MATTER.

You need to learn to filter what matters and what matters.

People might give you shit for it initially, but once they discover that your will is iron, they'll actually come to respect you and the decisions and sacrifices you have to make. Most of them, anyway.

Perseverence is the key.

I did not have to eat the way that i am. I did not have to train the way that I am.

As I said to u countless times already... Don't give a hoot about what people say. ITs your body, its your life. U think u are hardcore in what u do? In what u eat? Try doing what I did for the past 16 weeks.

I eat the way that I am, train the way that I train, because I freaking like doing it. I need challenge in my life, if not it gets mundane. I work on my weaknesses, but guess what.. the more I work on it, the more weaknesses that I find. Well, I like it, because it challenges me. My only regret thus far, is that my wife has to suffer with me.

Things that I have gained on this short dieting and training journey of mine are aplenty... top of the list being making new friends, new training partners, new perspectives on things, finding out what works and what doesn't..

Pls don't misunderstand. This wasn't supposed to be some whining thread/complaining thread. I just wanted to share the superb advice i received from a great guy to encourage anyone (i know some of you are intrinsically self-motivated and hardcore enough, then this isn't of any help to you) out there who may be struggling, or may have struggled like me with all these.

Let me just say...I'm learning. Pls give me more time. I started training for different reasons from you guys: I was extremely insecure, still am and that was one of the underlying, intrinsic reason why I stepped into the gym in the first place; in other words I started training for others and i wanted to change the way they perceived me...wrong reasons. Along the way, I've had many bad experiences which almost made me give up because I realized..if I want to do it the right way and continue it, theres no way I''m going to please others; but I've tried to remind myself...if i want to do it...shd be doing it for myself...like those hardcore ppl like KC, sufian, goi and ben. But i realize tt I'm not as happy when I try to do it out of my own motivation, i'm still learning to enjoy doing things for the process itself and not the result.

I'm trying.

And I hope there's no more flaming. Peace out.

i hope this means you're really adapting that attitude.
