Who still uses the weight machines in the gym
Who still uses the weight machines in the gym
I utilised a lot of machines in my regime some years back(smith machine, nautilius etc). When i had started to learn the proper form for the barbell and dumbbell lifts, my strength/mass/flexibility increased a lot more.
Now, whenever i attempt to go heavy on machines. My joints feel tight, restricted and painful. This occurs even on moderate weights. Therefore, i have almost cut out any form of machine work except for cable pulley systems.
Does anyone still incorporate any form of machine work in their training programme?
I use fixed movement machines to do very light isolations occasionally.

I tend to use for back:
- Hammer Strength has a good selection of back machines, though there doesn't tend to be as many of them here. I use it to go heavy for rows especially once I go beyond the range of the DB available.
- hamstrings on the rare occassion. Other than that cables are the only other machines I use.

I tried tricep extension recently and i feel the pain in my elbow.
Back to free weight, ahah yes, i started a bit of isolation recently.

i use lat machines and presses for activation and isolation purposes for rehab.

Re: Who still uses the weight machines in the gym
I use the machines. Especially the leg extension, leg curl, leg press, overhead press, the cables, the lat pulldowns, and the chest fly.
Before the young ones start to quote me on this, let me say that I do free weights first. Always. And its always Squats. Towards the end of my workout then I do machines.

Re: Who still uses the weight machines in the gym
Well I use cable machines all the time, mostly for rows. And the preacher curl machine lol.
Tried benching on the smith machine ONCE. Did not get past 5kg on each side. Too damn weird.

Re: Who still uses the weight machines in the gym
This should be quite obvious.
But i find that those who can go heavy on freeweights have no problems with heavy weights on machines(with little adjustments) but the same cannot be said for those who can go heavy on machines only.
e.g
I have seen people put up 2 plates a side benching on the smith but struggled with 70kg on free barbell bench press.

Re: Who still uses the weight machines in the gym
this is because.. the smith when empty provides only 7.6kg of resistance.alex wrote:This should be quite obvious.

Re: Who still uses the weight machines in the gym
I have been thinking it is 5kg all the time, how did you come to such a number?I am curious?
LOL
Last Sunday, there was a teenage boy.He is a bit of those pretentious douche- bag, kay kiang type, he told his friend after slapping on a plate on each side on the smith and loudly proclaim that he can bench 60kg.LOL.
The most funny part came where he attempted his heaviest set with a total of 45kg each side.Where he did 3 reps until his elbows hit 90 degrees not without his friend helping him with it.Thereafter, he announced that this is more than 2x his bodyweight.
haha

Re: Who still uses the weight machines in the gym
Actually the most funny was the aftermath, his friends came up to him and
eh what you siao sia
eh wah lan damn heavy sia
then he walked around the gym with his chest puffed out and then proceeded to do prawn deadlifts with the manufactured fixed t bar rows after that.

Re: Who still uses the weight machines in the gym
aside from cable machines, i don't know how the machines will help me, so i don't use them (can't say i tried to find out either)
i used to jerk off on hammer strength machines doing heavy (for me, back then) press... i guess i got over it.

Wa piang each side 45kg on a smith, i dont think i can do it man.
Squats can only strengthen, tear or break something. Strengthening, tearing and breaking is totally awesome. Thus squats are awesome.
