Just thought about something at noon today after lunch. My understudy is very carb-tolerant; he eats a ton of neo-carbs (Kwai Teow, cakes, desserts, et cetera) and never feels sleepy after eating them. Low-Moderate amount of protein some of the time. He's a slow oxidiser. He too can get by with as little as three hours of sleep a day now that he's doing his SATS. On the other hand, if I eat too much rice during lunch at the cookhouse on training days, I'd crash an hour or two later even if I ate a ton of meat along with the carbs. I can't get by with three hours of sleep a night; tolerable perhaps for the first night, but by the second I'm shit.
So this leads me to wonder if slow oxidisers and people built for carbs can get by with little sleep and still function well enough in the day, while the reverse is true for those who need or are built for high / moderate protein and high / moderate fat diets and need their hours of sleep.
Then again it may just be that he's 19 and can take anything. But I'd figure genetics is still a factor; always felt sleepy after eating rice with stuff even back in secondary school.

Re: Hypothesis

Re: Hypothesis
hmm i dont think required hours of slping are determined by whether you eat tons of rice or meat, couldn't find any studies in this regard so thats my opinion. but that's not a factor in cortisol lvls while whether you get enough rest or not is, so..
or we might be able to think about it in this regard: you're adapted to metabolising fat and protein more efficiently than carbs while he isn', so he's better to handle carbs better than you in this regard, THUS he doesnt crash and you do? LOL
age MIGHT be a factor, but then again you're not that old dude ._.
but something i know for sure, you're so boliao in camp that your thoughts start to stray. BUT why its with regards to this and not if you would prefer a big ball or big sausage confuddles me LOLOL.
ps. that was a real question derek once smsed me about hahahahhaha

Re: Hypothesis
one subject only!
Re: Hypothesis
Adaptation is possible. The thing is he doesn't crash at all, while I've been crashing since I was 14. Not fun to fall asleep in class.aaron wrote:hmm i dont think required hours of slping are determined by whether you eat tons of rice or meat, couldn't find any studies in this regard so thats my opinion. but that's not a factor in cortisol lvls while whether you get enough rest or not is, so..

Re: Hypothesis
a ton is not quantifiable, moderately for 20-30g seems fine for moderately insulin sensitive people.
Some can go up to 250g and still go on.

Working "hard," or the perception of working hard, doesn't really mean anything. Sweating, vomiting, and breathing hard could be a good workout or a tropical disease kicking in.-Dan John
Re: Hypothesis
what about physical activity?
Re: Hypothesis
hmmm vince once said that protein + carb combination spike insulin more than fat +carb or fat +protein.. so maybe tts the reason why he nv feel so sleepy as u do...
dont know how true is it.. u can research more into it.
