Recommendations for Clamshell Phones

Post by Derek »

Am looking to replace my Motorola W220 with another clamshell. Budget is undefined for now. The primary feature that I'm really looking at is the ability to surf the Internet quickly and efficiently; many things coming up on my plate hence there is a need to communicate on the go. Memory space is also another concern.

Thanks in advance.

But seriously, I don't think clamshells are meant for surfing or PDA functions. Those are in the realm of the smartphones, which are seldom clamshells.

I am not aware of any clamshell phones that has what you want...

You might want to consider a smartphone instead.

Iphone, Samsung Omnia / Jet / i780, Blackberry.

Things that you'd need for a good smartphone
1. Reasonably big QWERTY keypad
2. Reasonably large screen
3. Reasonably fast processor
3. Reasonably large chassis to fit the required processing/mechanical hardware

Things that clamshells are often are
1. Small Alphanumeric keypad
2. Small screen
3. Slow processor for basic functions
4. Tiny chassis so that it's compact and its inside your pocket.

They're almost mutually exclusive. When you try to surf the net with a clamshell with a slow processor, small screen and keypad, it ain't gonna be pretty.

Same sentiments as Goi.

A clamshell phone might be stylish, but for a web warrior on the move, it is far from user-friendly.
