Gyms Near Outram / Chinatown

Post by Derek »

Hi all,

Can anyone give me a list of the gyms around that area? My workplace is very near Pearls Centre and Eu Tong Sen Street and I'd like to squeeze in a morning training session before heading over to the office.

Thanks in advance

-edit-

looks like the nearest two are True Fitness at China Square Central and Fitness First Platinum at George Street. If anyone knows of more gyms in the area please drop me a line. Thanks

your testosterone level will plummet as soon as you see the people there.

...but van (sternbergh) should be there, i dunno if he's there in the morning though.

Sorry but who's Van?

Ah, that's what the iPod is for. So long as they have sufficiently heavy weights, a squat rack, and maybe a Hammer Strength chest press machine, I'm happy.

Do they open at 7 or 7.30am? I'd still prefer something closer to the CBD area actually.

Oh, him. I think he used to train at Bedok Clubfitt; huge guy.

I don't train with my glasses nowadays anyway; less distractions.

It's for in case I need to bench and there's no decent spotter around. Personally I've been stuck one too many times under the bar to not get a spotter for every workset I'm on nowadays.

You just need to be really really specific with your spotting instructions.

That's if you have a spotter, which I never had until I got tired of having the bar stuck on my face.

Actually I've never had the need for a spotter ever since I started periodizing my training.

Do they have a power rack or a squat rack there? What are the heaviest dumbbells available?

Thanks

Just checked out Fitness First @ George Street and True Fitness at China Square Central.

Fitness First:

NIce environment but a small free weights area. No power rack but has a squat rack. Ample number of plates and dumbbells up to 100 pounds. I actually like the environment as I don't think I'll be disturbed much. Another plus is the outdoor warmup area; I figure doing self myofascial release work, stretching and activation should be fun. Membership I was quoted was lifetime $140 (!!!) per month for all clubs or $120 (!!!) for a single club.

Quite a number of hot women too. I'm considering negotiating with the sales manager for a lower premium. Will probably go in later this week for a trial training session.

True Fitness:

The place sucks. Didn't even bother checking out the dumbbells as the place was too stifled. The consultant who was with me didn't even know if their power rack was a power rack. I reckon it's a 3D smith machine thing. Got quoted $79 (!) for one club and $99 (!!) for all clubs.

Might end up sticking to Clubfitt instead. Sengkang.
