Working "hard," or the perception of working hard, doesn't really mean anything. Sweating, vomiting, and breathing hard could be a good workout or a tropical disease kicking in.-Dan John

Ryan: An introduction
Haha I'll start the ball rolling then.
My name's Ryan, aged 17, studying in jc arts stream now, taking A's next yr.
First stepped into the gym somewhere in sec 2 with some of my ncc classmates. Was pretty interested as I was bad at sports and quite unfit. at first I started going quite infrequently as I lacked commitment and discipline then.
Over the next 2 years, there were a lot of things/problems that frustrated me in life and I began to see gym training as the ultimate solution to all these issues: from emotional ones like lack of self-confidence to others like being bulled to social akwardness to physical problems like being bad at sports and not being able to do a pullup even at sec 3 when my friends could do one.
Which explains why when I first read about Mark Rippetoe's SS program in the rippetoe thread in BB.com forum, I was really excited, perhaps ecstatic even to know about such a program. I thought it was THE best program for beginners haha, and even till now I confess I still hold on to some of those beliefs like "the squat is the sine qua non of weight training" . It was then that I started thinking ppl afraid to squat are unpro and unhardcore and all tt kind of stuff. =x
Using the program. I managed to go from 64kg to 69kg even though my diet was like the typical singaporen teenager's : lots of carbs(grains), sugar, fat, but not enough protein. I felt it was extremely hard eat properly without becoming a "no life" person as I didn't know the macronutrient breakdowns of the foods tt I ate.
About a year and a half later, I was still stuck at the same weights( 70+kg squat with bad form) and I decided to sign up for Coach Jon's program. It was quite a life changing experience I must say. I learnt quite a lot of important stuff about life in addition to gym stuff.
gained about 8kg in 3 months, did nearly everything tt Jon told me to. I used to bring 8 hardboiled eggs and finish a loaf of bread after my workouts. at some point of time i was also drinking 12 tablespoons of olive oil, 6 in the morning, 6 at night.
Fast forward to today: I now know better than to think that strength training, or any other type of gym training is the be-all-end-all solution for my problems. Though I'd like to think that strength training has taught me some valuable lessons, nevertheless there's always the temptation to cling on to the wrong mindset.
That's about all for me. I think that pretty much says a lot about what kind of person I am.
Just like to say that I'm grateful to have this forum and this community to seek help from. Look forward to meeting more people from this forum soon!

hello everyone
My name is as per my nick. if u go csi me at fb, u will know im called charles too. currently, im a student. 22 years old but look like 16. people say i look at sec sch kid, poly kid, ah tiong and a malaysian. ha.
Started training during NS period as i was a stay-in personnel. training knowledge then was really newbie (thought that taking too much protein was bad for body but now it is the opposite.) Didnt know about compound exercises till those regulars in HWZ kept on advocating it.
Not very committed to training as i always put school work and friends' outing first. so have been training on and off for 1 year. Really hope i can follow an exercise and diet plan but once school starts really hard to follow the plan esp diet.
Thats all.

taken directly off my fb page because i am a lazy asss
20 years old this year and currently serving national service. Yes, this means I'm botak, but if you buy me a wig I'll give you a back scrub.
I workout, study nutrition, play instruments, listens and analyzes.
If you think I'm a geek, it's all cool. I also love challenges, refuses to take shit from anyone and I'm an asshole - the fun kind that's impossible to hate.
I love traveling - so if you need a fun travel companion, hit me up after you've settled all my traveling expenses, insurances and bed-time stories.
I enjoy meeting new people, and if there's ever going to be a awkward silence between us, I'll just make fun of you

PRUSSSSS 1!!!
simplify can?
A post-count whore increases his or her post counts with senseless, nonsensical posts (like mine).
Therefore the reference of a post-count whore.

How come it sounded kinda crude in Hokkien? The English version sounded so refined.nakorius wrote:MKLKHLG = Mai Ka Li Kong Hor Li Gian (Hokkien)Steph_Parker wrote:we all have a dark side =xleetianan wrote:HAHA dun join the dark side.
